Films

I went to the movies for the first time in months and what did I see as I rode (?) up the elevator to the 2nd floor (where the theatres are in my movie theatre of choice)? An oversized poster of Christian Bale’s face staring at me! It was an advertisement for his new film The Prestige. I hadn’t expected to see that and was annoyed that the cardboard thingy only said “Coming Soon”. The other 2 sides of the cardboard thingy showed Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johannson, BTW. Excellent cast, and good director (Christopher Nolan from Batman Begins). So when I was on the internet later I checked the release dates for the film. It opens in the UK in November, but I have to wait until January to see it here in Germany. That sucks. What also sucks is that the film’s website is programmed in Flash so I couldn’t enter it. I hate Flash pages.

As to the film I went to see last weekend, it was Deutschland: Ein Sommermärchen (Germany: A summer fairy tale), a documentary about our national soccer team at the world cup held here this summer. Good film. Funny interviews with semi-intelligent players. Main problem for me: too many songs by pseudo-religious German singer Xavier Naidoo, whom I can't stand.

  1. Hi BLBBG, good to see you back from the dead!
About the football movie: nah, I think I couldn't stand the movie at all, you remember I was placing my bets on holland and england. Now I'm just glad that annoying wave of patriotism/nationalism is over, don't need to see a movie full of german flags.

  2. There aren't really that much flags in the film because it focuses very much on the team and not on the fans. You do see people waving as the team bus drives by, but that's about it.
And seeing Jens Lehmann being embarrassed his team-mates in front of Angela Merkel was quite cute, among other things.

  3. I'm really excited about the Prestige - David Bowie is in it!
